Many
outdoor activities were planned for Friday through Labor Day Monday. As
usual, I planned to travel around the resort making the necessary
announcements. Friday night it began to rain.
Correctly
stated it poured. It was necessary to relocate activities and notify the
campers. This rain was going to be a true gully washer.
Perhaps
you read or saw on the news about the people that perished in high water here
in the Kansas City area. That was our rain storm. It rained continuously for
40 hours in varying amounts.
When
it became imperative to alert our campers of the flood warnings and the
developing hazards the only way we had was to use the Sound Cruiser public
address system. Lives and property may have been spared because of the alert.
Some
of the campers sheltering in their RV's had no idea of the rising waters. All
five lakes were full and overflowing.
